Sorrow
Sorrow
Oil on canvas
20 x 20 in
This painting is on view at EDNA Contemporary Art, 967 Osos St., San Luis Obispo, CA.
It is interesting to me that I chose to paint nudes after a long interruption to my regular painting practice. It was, on the surface of my consciousness, a decision made simply as a challenge.
I had not painted the nude figure since I had studied art in Chicago decades before and I thought it would be a good exercise to take on the subject.
Yet the symbolism of vulnerability and emotional rawness depicted in nudity, cannot be denied. Additionally, I chose a pose that communicates distress.
My misfortune had crept into my art though I was not aware of it at the time.
