While flying into Rome early one morning, I was taken aback by the bright orange color reflecting off the Mediterranean. As high as we were, the sun’s rays were not passing through the earth’s lower atmosphere and so the sun appeared white. Whereas from the earth’s surface the sun was just rising reflecting a bright orange off the sea. In simplifying the design and accentuating the shapes, my interpretation communicates the heavenly and other-worldly.
