The Opening

The Opening

For many years, I pretended that all was well with certain people in my life, choosing to overlook the absence of respect, love, and genuine care. I believed that because I accepted them as they were, they would one day accept me. Even when the truth was evident, I held onto the hope that things would change.

When that illusion finally shattered, I was forced to sit with a deeper truth—that I had long been unseen and misunderstood. In turning inward, I began to recognize not only the source of that pain, but also how it had quietly shaped the patterns in my life.

Slowly, I learned to let go—of expectations, of the need for approval, and of the belief that I could be valued by those who were unable to see me. In that release, something softened. The pain did not disappear entirely, but it loosened its hold, making space for a quieter, more grounded way of being.

This painting reflects that inner shift. Rendered in a palette of muted mauve, yellow ochre, and softened blue-green, it depicts a broken seashell with the ocean visible in the distance through its opening. The ocean becomes a quiet symbol of hope—of something vast, enduring, and still present beyond the break.

It is a meditation on release, acceptance, and the quiet freedom that comes from simply being.
